Take-Out: Expanding the Language of Outdoor Gathering

presented by Landscape Forms

The newly expanded Take-Out® line by Landscape Forms invites a rethinking of how outdoor environments are composed and activated. Designed by Rodrigo Torres, Take-Out operates like a spatial toolkit, defined by lightness, clarity of form and the ability to be easily reconfigured as the purpose of outdoor spaces evolves.

At a glance, its geometry is simple. Minimalist form and a quiet architectural presence create a foundation that is both refined and highly adaptable. In practice, these elements become highly versatile. Individual pieces combine into linear runs, face-to-face settings or more complex compositions that shift with the rhythm of a place, supporting everything from informal pause points to highly social, collective experiences.

The latest additions extend this vocabulary. Take-Out wedge introduces a subtle angular shift that changes how people relate, allowing for shared outward views while gently turning users toward one another. When repeated, that small move unlocks new spatial possibilities including radial compositions, staggered runs and fully enclosed social hubs. The new Take-Out tall support more informal, standing-height modes of gathering, while the scaled-down Take-Out mini invites younger users into the same design language, creating continuity across age, context and program.

Taken together, the system offers landscape architects a way to choreograph interaction through arrangement. Proximity, orientation and posture become variables that can be tuned to support collaboration, quiet focus or spontaneous exchange. The addition of connector brackets reinforces this approach by allowing configurations to shift between fluid and fixed depending on the needs of the site.

What emerges is not a single prescribed solution, but an open-ended framework. Seating becomes adaptable infrastructure, capable of evolving over time, accommodating different users and supporting multiple patterns of use within the same footprint.

In this way, Take-Out expands the role of site furnishings in the public realm. It moves beyond static placement toward something more dynamic, a system that helps designers activate space, invite participation and shape the social life of a landscape with intention and precision.
