Ballistic Architecture Machine: The Shipping Container Landscape project reimagines the traditional real estate showroom by utilizing modular shipping containers, emphasizing the temporary nature of such spaces.

In the context of China’s real estate market, sales centers often receive as much design attention as the projects they promote. Traditionally, these centers feature opulent stone facades, sculptural pines, water features, and luxurious interiors, all aiming to evoke stability and timelessness. However, despite their grandeur, many are dismantled post-use to accommodate further development. Departing from this norm, the Shipping Container Landscape embraces temporality through its architectural choice of shipping containers. This approach not only acknowledges the ephemeral nature of sales centers but also challenges traditional design aesthetics by organizing classic showroom programs within these modular units.

The landscape design utilizes a series of walls to divide the site, guiding visitors on a journey from public zones to increasingly private spaces. Rather than applying stone veneers, these temporary walls are painted. A high-contrast pattern serves as a dynamic backdrop in areas where planting zones are limited, while a subtle two-tone pale red wall complements areas featuring more lavish garden planting. These walls guide visitors through a sequence of distinct garden rooms: from the parking area, through a grand entrance water garden, into a beer garden courtyard, a bocce court, and finally the private garden zone adjacent to the show units themselves.

The modularity of the shipping containers is expressed through the rhythmic openings in the walls, the structured patterns of the water garden, and the modular planter units housing aquatic plants. The planting scheme incorporates a canopy layer featuring Elaeocarpus decipiens, Zelkova serrata, and Triadica sebifera. The picnic room includes birch trees complemented by ferns as the primary ground cover.
