2026 EUmies Awards Nominees

News

The European Commission and Fundació Mies van der Rohe announce the nominees and the jury for the 2026 edition of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, EUmies Awards.

The jury brings together seven figures from across Europe and beyond, each contributing a distinct disciplinary and geographic perspective. The jury is chaired by Smiljan Radić, a Chilean architect known for his materially experimental and emotionally charged works, who studied in Venice and is based in Santiago. He is joined by Carl Bäckstrand, Deputy CEO of White Arkitekter, one of Scandinavia’s leading architectural practice, whose work spans architecture, landscape and urbanism across multiple continents.

Chris Briffa, based in Valletta, Malta, is recognised for his careful and contemporary interventions within the historic fabric of the city. From Riga, Latvia, Zaiga Gaile contributes decades of expertise in architectural preservation, particularly the adaptive reuse of timber and industrial buildings. Tina Gregorič, Slovenian architect and professor at TU Wien in Austria, brings a focus on housing, materials and research-based practice. Nikolaus Hirsch, Artistic Director of CIVA in Brussels and co-founder of e-flux architecture, offers curatorial and critical depth rooted in Germany and Belgium. The jury also includes Rosa Rull Bertrán, Barcelona-based co-founder of BAILORULL + ADD Arquitectura, whose work is driven by site research and processual thinking.

Together, this panel will assess the nominated works for the EUmies 2026 edition, contributing not only to the recognition of architectural excellence in Europe but also to ongoing debates on heritage, sustainability, and the contemporary built environment.
