LA+, the interdisciplinary journal of landscape architecture published by the University of Pennsylvania, has announced an open call for submissions for its upcoming issue, inviting critical, theoretical, and practice-based perspectives on what the concept of “field” means for the discipline today.

The journal describes the word field as encompassing both space and action, from perceptual fields of vision and sensing, to the material conditions of fieldwork, to the networks of forces that operate across landscape, culture, and time. Submissions are organized around three interrelated categories.

Field as Discipline examines landscape architecture’s intellectual, professional, and institutional terrain — its boundaries, histories, methods, and evolution in response to environmental and social change.

Field of Perception focuses on methods and techniques shaping how landscapes are sensed, experienced, interpreted, and represented.

Field Work engages material practices of observation, measurement, and intervention — including more-than-human studies, site-based experiments, and questions of labor and care.

The editors note that priority will be given to abstracts that cut across two or more of these domains, examining how they intersect and how they affirm or expand contemporary understandings of landscape architecture.
