26 June / Peter Joseph Lenné Prize 2026 – Ideas Competition

News

The Peter Joseph Lenné Prize of the State of Berlin has opened its 2026 edition, inviting young professionals and students in landscape architecture, urban design, and open space planning to submit proposals for three international design challenges.

First launched in 1965, the Lenné Prize is one of the largest ideas competitions worldwide dedicated to emerging practitioners in landscape architecture and related disciplines. The competition aims to bring forward innovative approaches to urban open space design while supporting the professional development of young planners and designers.

The 2026 competition includes three tasks across different spatial scales:

Task A – Berlin: Tilla-Durieux-Park – Open Space in a Changing Climate
Task B – Freiburg: Public Spaces in Transition
Task C – Prague: Žižkov Freight Yard – Sustainable Neighbourhood Development

Participants are encouraged to propose creative and climate-adapted strategies for contemporary urban landscapes, addressing themes such as climate resilience, public space transformation, and sustainable neighbourhood planning.

The submission deadline is 26 June 2026 at 18:00 (CET).

The competition is organised by the Berlin Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and Environment, with the Lenné Symposium accompanying the prize as a forum for professional exchange on current issues in landscape architecture, urban design, and open space planning.

Named after Peter Joseph Lenné (1789–1866)—the influential Prussian landscape architect responsible for many of the historic gardens of Berlin and Potsdam—the prize continues to promote experimentation and new thinking in the design of public landscapes.
