Within a constellation of art institutions—in a district already breathing creativity—what remains absent is an anchor, a locus of encounter that binds these nodes into a shared point of reference. The search is a reflection of place: one bound to its vibrant setting, yet rooted in the city’s material and industrial memory. “Art is a state of encounter” (Nicolas Bourriaud). It is a vessel through which society explores, engages, and reacts to issues defining the present moment. Amid our anthropogenic age, two themes loom large: a collective sense of isolation, and a rapidly deteriorating environment. As we become absorbed in our own worlds—often shaped by technology—we grow apart from one another and from nature.

The Daegu Hammock responds to this condition, materializing the dream of better coexistence: for a community to overcome solitude, to meet organically, while fostering a thriving urban ecosystem. As the new landmark for an artistic quarter lacking a central public space, it reinvents the park as contemporary sculpture. Space is layered and hybridized; multiple social and ecological processes occur in tandem. Below, an intimate sanctuary invites tranquil meetings amidst calm microclimates and verdure. Above, a vibrant platform hosts diverse programs and experiences.

It is a place for neighbors and visitors to connect, to engage with local creators in an open-air gallery, or encounter nature at its wild, unpolished best. Within a single footprint, dialogues open—between earth and sky, sun and shadow, exposure and intimacy. The Daegu Hammock is the dream of encounter—with each other and with ecology.
